Luton Town boss emerges as odds-on favourite for Stoke City job

Luton Town’s Nathan Jones has emerged as the favourite for the Stoke City job.

The Potters are in the hunt for a new manager after sacking Gary Rowett this morning following a poor start to life in the Championship. The72 looked at five potential candidates earlier today.

Eyebrows have now been raised with odds falling for Luton’s Nathan Jones to make the step up to the Championship.

His Hatters side have been on fire in League One this season and are currently 2nd in the league behind Portsmouth.

Jones took over at Kenilworth Road in January 2016 and steered them away from safety in his first season at the club. His side then got to the Play-Offs in the 2016/17 campaign but lost to Blackpool over two legs.

The 45-year-old then guided Luton to promotion from League Two last season after finishing second behind Accrington Stanley.

Jones’ side have since blown many sides away in the third tier and are considered as genuine candidates for back-to-back promotion now.

Stoke may be attracted to Jones based on the fact he is a young and hungry manager. The Welshman, who played for the likes of Southend United, Brighton and Hove Albion and Yeovil Town in his playing days, likes his side to play attractive and attacking football.

The Potters giving a manager like Jones a chance in the Championship would be more admirable than doing the mundane thing and handing it to someone like David Moyes in my opinion.
