Ex-Charlton Athletic, Peterborough United and Swindon Town man on trial at Stevenage

Free agent striker Jonathan Obika is on trial at Stevenage.

The 28-year-old is hoping to earn a contract with the League Two side, according to a report by The Comet.

Obika, who is a former England Under-20 international, was released by League One outfit Oxford United at the end of the season and has been weighing up his options since. He spent two years at the Kassam Stadium and scored eight times.

Stevenage could add some more options and depth in attack for next season if they decide to offer him a deal. The Boro finished 10th last term and are hoping to get into the Play-Offs in the next campaign.

Obika is an experienced forward who has racked up over 300 appearances in his career so far. He started out at Tottenham Hotspur and rose up through the youth ranks with the London side before featuring four times for their senior side.

However, the 6ft striker has spent most of his career out on loan from Spurs with the likes of Yeovil Town, Millwall, Crystal Palace, Peterborough United, Swindon Town, Charlton Athletic and Brighton and Hove Albion.

He left Spurs on a permanent deal for the first time in 2014 to join Swindon for a fee of around £200,000 and spent three years at the County Ground. He scored 28 goals in 102 games for the Robins.

His most recent spell at Oxford did not really work out for Obika but a move to Stevenage could help him get more regular game time.
