Hull City breeze past Grimsby Town in behind-closed-doors friendly

Hull City have beaten Grimsby Town 3-0 in a behind-closed-doors friendly in Cottingham today.

Another goal from youngster Keane Lewis-Potter and a brace from Jackson Irvine ensured it was a comfortable win for the Tigers.

The result also means Hull are unbeaten so far in pre-season having drawn with Leyton Orient and beaten Gibraltar outfit Lincoln Red Imps in Marbella last week.

The Tigers face three more games against Mansfield Town, Doncaster Rovers and Amiens before travelling to the Liberty Stadium on the opening weekend of the Championship season to face Swansea City.

Grant McCann’s side have so far managed to bring in goalkeeper Matt Ingram from QPR and striker Tom Eaves in this transfer market but are keen on bringing in some more signings.

Irvine, who is entering his first season at the KCOM Stadium, has said his side need some new faces before the campaign starts, as per a report by Hull Live: We’ll need to bring some in and I’m sure the club’s working on that.”

He also added: “I think I grew a lot as a player last year and it was nice to get back to the goal ratio which I expect of myself as a minimum. I’ve been contributing in other ways as well and becoming part of a leadership group.”

Hull make the trip to Mansfield on Saturday and will be looking to gain another positive result under McCann.
